about

Me, says the mechanic from Citroen, the only pleasure I can afford after work is to go stroll down the grand boulevards. It's better than any show I could every pay money for. A great Montand classic revamped Brassard style on the words of Jacques Plante and a music by Norbert Glanzberg.

lyrics

(ENGLISH BELOW)

Toujours ardent, parfois frondeur

ENGLISH (Basic translation by Jean Brassard)

I like to stroll down the grands boulevards
There are so many things
So many things to see.
I like the shops, the bazaars,
The windows, the stands
And their chatty vendors,
It makes the time goes by
And we forget our troubles.

I’m not one of those millionaires
I screw the bolts at Citroen
I can’t afford much at the fair
From weekday to weekend.
But still I have my litte thrills
That give me joy
And cost a song,
And so when my shift is fini
I skip between the Porte Saint-Denis
And the Boulevard des Italiens.

I like to stroll down the grands boulevards
There are so many things
So many things to see.
We see great days of hope
Days of anger that bring out
The militant in you.
There (on the GBs) beat the heart of Paris
Always ardent, sometimes cocky,
With its chants and its screams
Lots of moments of history
Are written all over the grands boulevards

(Instrumental solo)

I like to stroll down the GBs
On summer eves when everyone
Loves to go bed late
You have the chance to catch
Two angelic eyes that you follow up to Republique (a subway station and a neighborhood).

Then I go back to my little hotel,
The room where my window
Looks on a corner of the sky
From where I hear call out like cheer
All the rumor, all the glimmer
Of the grands boulevards!
